On 17 July 2015, the duty officer at the Zgorzelec police headquarters received a telephone report about several artillery shells found in Czerwona Woda. The person who reported them noticed the shells while walking in the forest. Zgorzelec police officers found a total of 22 artillery shells there. Sappers from Bolesławiec neutralized them.
Failure to take appropriate safety precautions after finding unexploded ordnance, or improper conduct resulting from a lack of awareness of the danger involved, can lead to many tragedies and even death.
Rules of conduct when an unexploded or unspent projectile is found:
- do not touch it, and in particular do not pick it up or move it, and do not use any tools on the object
- if possible, secure the area against interference by other people
- notify the police
- remain near the find until the police arrive—do not allow other people to tamper with the objects.
Remember!!!
Be aware that explosives used in military technology are, in practice, completely resistant to weather conditions and retain their explosive properties regardless of their production date.
