Work on Sybiraków Square has been completed. Trees and plants have been planted here. Benches and bins have been installed. The surface has been paved with paving blocks. The monument to the Exiles to Siberia has been assembled. Finishing work is still under way, which is why it is fenced off. The project contractor has opened the square to residents, who are happy to relax here. Everyone is pleased that this district has gained a representative place of national remembrance and recreation.

The Legnica branch of the Association of Siberians campaigned for the construction of the monument. The monument’s design was approved by the Council for the Protection of the Memory of Struggle and Martyrdom. The cost of this project, entitled “Reconstruction of Wrocławska Street – construction of Sybiraków Square and the monument to the Exiles to Siberia,” is more than PLN 2 million. The Polska Miedź Foundation awarded a grant of PLN 250,000 to co-finance the construction of the monument.

Legnica will gain a new, representative place of national remembrance. It will also be another element in the systematic revitalisation of this part of the city.
