Attractive islands
A tour of Greece can confidently begin with a stay on one of the Greek islands. Rhodes, Crete and Corfu entice visitors with a pleasant climate and kilometres of beautiful beaches. The islands are not connected to the mainland, but they do have airports served by carriers from all the larger cities in Poland. These areas are a treat both for people who want to relax on the beach and for those who prefer to spend their time actively sightseeing. Many landmarks are connected with antiquity—in numerous museums, we can see archaeological excavations and works of art dating back to the Minoan culture.
The islands are also a better choice than the mainland when travelling on holiday with small children. The climate there is much milder, and the heat less noticeable. At the same time, we are guaranteed an impeccably blue sky throughout the holiday season.
The island of Zakynthos has recently become increasingly popular, particularly because of one of Europe's most beautiful beaches—Nawajo. A tourist attraction is also the charming port town named after the island itself.
On the mainland
If we want to spend our holiday on the mainland, it is worth visiting one of Greece's main cities. Above all, Athens is one of the country's main attractions. There, visitors can see, for example, the National Archaeological Museum—one of the most important museums of its kind in the world. The Acropolis and its complex of ancient buildings offer truly postcard-perfect views. One of Greece's largest airports is located about 20 kilometres from the city centre, and the rail network is also becoming increasingly well developed.
Thessaloniki is also interesting from a tourist perspective. It combines Byzantine, Ottoman and Roman architecture. One of the most important landmarks is the White Tower, built during the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent—it is a symbol of the city. It is also worth seeing the Basilica of Saint Demetrius, the city's most important church.
During the crisis prevailing in Greece, it is worth remembering to prepare enough cash before departure so that there is no need to use banks or ATMs after arriving at the destination.
