For some time, cellars had been broken into in the Polne housing estate in Lubin. Mostly bicycles were stolen. It was rare for the perpetrator to take other valuable items found there.

Officers from the criminal division of the Lubin police headquarters worked on the case. The suspect was arrested and taken into police custody.

The officers proved that the Lubin resident had committed 14 burglaries. The losses caused by his activities amounted to nearly 20,000 zlotys. The perpetrator told the officers that he stole bicycles specifically because that was what the market currently demanded. He sold bicycles worth several thousand zlotys for 200 or 300 zlotys.

The burglar had already been convicted several times for theft. This time, he could face up to 10 years in prison. Those who bought bicycles from him may also be held liable for handling stolen goods, which carries a penalty of up to 5 years’ imprisonment.
