Police officers from the Prevention Department of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra detained a 39-year-old man suspected of theft.

The incident occurred on June 28, 2015, at approximately 3:12 p.m. in Jelenia Góra. While patrolling Grodzka Street, officers noticed a man carrying two shopping bags. When he saw the uniformed officers, he threw them away and started running. The police officers pursued him.

They detained him a moment later. They also checked what was inside the bags. They contained clothing—which, as it later turned out, had been stolen from two stores in Jelenia Góra—with a total value of nearly PLN 1,300.

The detainee claimed that he did not know what was in the bags and that… he just wanted to go for a run.

The 39-year-old was wanted to serve a one-year-and-10-month prison sentence for other offenses. He now faces up to five years in prison.
