As Henryka Zdziech, the municipal gardener, reports, the plants were stolen at night from a flower bed at the beginning of Orła Białego Avenue. Employees noticed they were missing in the morning. The boxwoods, probably purchased with our shared money, will apparently beautify someone’s property instead of pleasing the eye in the park.
Plants are even stolen in broad daylight. Several years ago, at noon, a very expensive car drove onto Orła Białego Avenue. A man in an elegant suit got out. He took off his jacket and pulled a small shovel from the trunk. In full view of passers-by, he began digging up plants. He was stopped by municipal guards. Asked why he was stealing, he indignantly replied that he was not stealing, but merely digging them up. It turned out that the man was very wealthy. As can be seen, such people can also be common thieves. Officials appeal: let us not allow thieves and vandals to destroy our shared property.
Perennial plants, 33 species in total, are being planted in green strips along nearly a kilometre-long section of Orła Białego Avenue. Boxwood will be the most numerous, with nearly 26,000 plants. A low hedge will be created from these shrubs.
“Colourful compositions will be created from the plants and will bloom in rotation throughout the year,” says Henryka Zdziech. “This will make walks more enjoyable for people visiting our park in every season.”
What will particularly delight walkers’ eyes and sense of smell? Hybrid and garden columbines, Arctic chrysanthemums, asters, astilbes, hellebores, daylilies, carnations, candytuft, loosestrife, lavender, sage, yucca and even catnip.
