The competition for a candidate for the position of director of the Stanisław Wyspiański Młodzieżowy Dom Kultury in Bolesławiec was announced in mid-May. No one applied for the competition, whose deadline expired on June 3, 2015.

The current director definitely does not want to continue in the role. He wants to become a teacher and is waiting for a good head of the MDK—what he calls the best institution of this type in Lower Silesia.

“Five years ago, the County Council Board hired me to carry out specific tasks,” says Marek Łętowski. “The Młodzieżowy Dom Kultury had to be reorganized, the number of positions reduced, and its program adapted to theatrical activities without additional teachers. I fulfilled these tasks and am leaving the institution in the best possible condition. Now I want to focus on what I do best and what gives me pleasure: teaching children. I would like to add that the county provided a great deal of help to the MDK; only eleven institutions of this kind remain in Lower Silesia. The activities of the MDK in Bolesławiec were rated very good and good. It is a good place for creative people,” adds the former director of the institution.

The starosta and his highest-ranking superior also praise Director Łętowski and intend to persuade him to continue managing the MDK.

“Marek is a very good head; I am also surprised by this situation,” says Dariusz Kwaśniewski. “Marek Łętowski recently asked for an evaluation, which we obtained from the Education Superintendent’s Office as a matter of urgency. I was convinced that this was connected with entering the competition. The evaluation is excellent. We have no one else and are not preparing anyone else. The director is currently on leave, and I do not want to disturb him during it. When he returns, I will talk to him. I care about him and want him to continue performing this function. Formally, the County Board may appoint an acting director for ten months. And I can entrust this function to Marek Łętowski,” adds the starosta.
