The ceremony was preceded by a Mass for firefighters, celebrated at St. Boniface Church. After it ended, firefighters and invited guests, accompanied by the KWB Turów Brass Band, flag detachments and the Honor Guard Company of the State Fire Service, marched ceremonially through the streets of Zgorzelec to the grounds of the County Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Zgorzelec, where an official ceremony marking Firefighter’s Day took place.
The official ceremony, organized jointly by State Fire Service and Volunteer Fire Service firefighters, began with the ceremony commander reporting to the deputy provincial commander, the raising of the national flag and the playing of the national anthem.
Many official guests and friends of the firefighters attended this year’s celebrations. They were welcomed by the county commander of the State Fire Service, junior brigadier Wiesław Wypych, and member of the Board of the Provincial Branch of the Association of Volunteer Fire Brigades of the Republic of Poland Kazimierz Słabicki. Guests included, among others: Senator of the Republic of Poland Jan Michalski, Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Cezary Przybylski, Voivodeship Assembly councillor Kazimierz Janik, deputy provincial commander, senior brigadier Andrzej Abulewicz, as well as representatives of local authorities and social organizations from Zgorzelec County.
The county was represented by Zgorzelec County Governor Artur Bieliński, Deputy Governor Andrzej Tyc, Chairman of the Zgorzelec County Council Stanisław Żuk, and full-time Board member Ireneusz Owsik.
The Firefighter’s Day celebrations also attracted considerable interest among county residents. As every year, the occasion was used to present promotions and decorations to both professional officers and members of the Volunteer Fire Service, as well as community members supporting the activities of the Volunteer and State Fire Services.
Later in the ceremony, Zgorzelec County Governor and the Chairman of the County Council presented combat uniforms to firefighters from the County Headquarters, funded by the Zgorzelec County Office.
This year’s ceremony concluded with firefighting demonstrations, refreshments and a presentation of the equipment and gear of the State Fire Service in Zgorzelec and Volunteer Fire Service units from Zgorzelec County.
