Before 8:00 a.m., two passenger cars collided on road no. 18 (at kilometre 51.9 of the Krzywa–Olszyna motorway section). One person was killed at the scene and four others were injured. One of the injured people was trapped in a burning car. To free the person, firefighters had to use specialist equipment. The rescue operation was further complicated because they had to extinguish the car and cool the injured person with water at the same time. The burned and most seriously injured person was transported by helicopter belonging to Lotnicze Pogotowie Ratunkowe to a hospital in Nowa Sól. The units involved included the Military Fire Service from Świętoszów, which was first at the accident scene, the Volunteer Fire Service from Iłowa, and the State Fire Service from Bolesławiec and Żagań. Ambulances from the Bolesławiec and Żagań Emergency Services were also at the scene, as was an ambulance from the Military Unit in Bolesławiec. The area was secured by the Police from Bolesławiec and Żagań.
Several minutes after 8:00 a.m., a second accident occurred. At kilometre 82 of the same road, a Volkswagen Golf and a Volkswagen Bus collided. Two people were injured in the accident and taken to hospital. It was not necessary to free anyone from the vehicles. At the scene, firefighters disconnected the batteries and secured the vehicles against catching fire. The responders included firefighters from the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec and Chojnów and the Volunteer Fire Service in Różaniec, as well as the Police and Emergency Service from Bolesławiec.
