On Wednesday at 1:30 a.m. in Chojnów, police officers from the local station stopped a man driving a Chrysler passenger car for inspection. It turned out that the 35-year-old driver’s driving privileges had been revoked by the starosta. The vehicle was secured, and the detainee was taken to a police unit.
Several hours later, on the A4 motorway, traffic officers stopped a resident of Polkowice who was driving a BMW. His driving privileges had also been revoked.
Both detainees face up to two years in prison. They will be able to collect the vehicles together with a person who holds the relevant driving privileges. They will also have to pay the towing and parking fees.
Since 18 May this year, drivers who operate a vehicle despite having previously had their driving licence revoked by the starosta have been committing a crime. Until now, this was an offence punishable only by a fine. Following the change in regulations, it may result in up to two years in prison.
