A total of 53 candidates from across Poland qualified for the finals, including three from Lower Silesia—two students of II LO under the supervision of Anna Lisiak.

“This is a difficult competition,” says the teacher. “The committee includes enthusiasts of arms and military affairs who ask participants detailed, probing questions, so you have to demonstrate an enormous amount of knowledge. In this edition of the competition, the historical period runs from the Battle of Cedynia in the 10th century to the 16th century,” adds Anna Lisiak.

The final competitions will be held in Warsaw from 11 to 13 June. Participants will take part in several varied events covering military geography; the history of the state and its armed forces in song, poetry and literature; battle painting; the history of architecture and art; heraldry and vexillology; and military weaponry and equipment. The students will also be guided through selected historical sites in Warsaw.

The Istotne.pl editorial team warmly congratulates the students and their supervising teacher.

The Message of the Competition
Tradition is one of the foundations of our identity, our memory of the past. We cultivate it in our families and in the state, in local and regional communities, as well as in the national community as a whole, in the military, in social organizations and religious associations. Its educational significance is appreciated by everyone, beginning with parents and grandparents; it is recognized by broad circles of teachers, educators and military personnel, state officials and community activists, and above all by veterans—participants in and witnesses to historical events. That is precisely why the Association of Veterans’ Organizations of the City of Płock and the Club of Knights of the Virtuti Militari War Order support our activities. One might say that every Pole, living in the Republic of Poland or in the diaspora scattered around the world, recognizes, values and nurtures tradition.
