The International Ceramic and Sculpture Symposium began at the start of August. The event has been held for 42 years. Ceramic artists from various European countries and around the world are taking part – this year, participants come from the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Belarus, Ukraine, the Netherlands and Poland. Bolesławiec is represented by the artists Krystyna Gay-Kutschenreiter, Marta Małoszyc, Jadwiga Sarzyńska and Bronisław Wolanin. The artistic curator is visual artist Władysław Garnik. Last week, the artists met at the town hall with the city mayor, Piotr Roman. They discussed ideas for developing the symposium.

The symposium traditionally takes place at ceramic factories in Bolesławiec and Ołdrzychów. The artists' creative work is accompanied by exhibition openings, meetings with artists and performance events. The participants' annual happening will be held during the Bolesławiec Ceramics Festival on 19 August, in the town square in the afternoon. The symposium organizers expect the post-symposium exhibition, presenting a month's worth of work and exploration in clay, to be organized as early as November this year.

It is worth recalling that in 2004, the symposium organizer, Bolesławiec Cultural Centre, received the Lower Silesian Key to Success award in the category of the most interesting cultural event or initiative for organizing it. This year's symposium is co-financed by the European Union's INTERREG III A Small Projects Fund for the Nysa Euroregion Poland-Czech Republic and by the state budget.
