The incident took place during the night of May 4–5. At around 4:50 a.m., police officers from the station in Bogatynia, who were patrolling the area around Waryńskiego Street, heard an alarm going off at one of the chain stores. They immediately went to the scene.

As they approached, they saw a man squeezing through the so-called night hatch in the door. When he saw the officers, the suspect abandoned the bag he was carrying and began to flee. He was detained.

It turned out that the bag contained five bottles of alcohol worth more than PLN 400, stolen from the aforementioned store.

The detained resident of Bogatynia, 27, had previously been convicted of burglaries and thefts. He now faces up to 10 years in prison.
