In Lubin County, tragic incidents have occurred involving workers engaged in tree felling. This type of work is generally carried out in rarely visited areas. Police officers from the Economic Crime Department of the Lubin police headquarters, supported by officers from the Border Guard, Forest Guard and State Labour Inspectorate, decided to check how such work is currently being performed.
Two companies involved in tree felling in Lubin County were inspected. The results were alarming. Only two of the five workers were sober. The record-holder had nearly 2 per mille of alcohol in his system. In addition, those inspected did not have protective clothing or helmets. The work was being carried out in breach of numerous health and safety regulations.
The case is being handled by the State Labour Inspectorate, which will decide what penalties will be imposed on the company owners and the workers themselves. The police have announced that inspections will continue.
