As a result, passengers will have a total of 700 locations at their disposal where they can leave their bicycles and transfer to a train.

The list of nearly 300 stations and stops where PLK will install racks this year includes, among others, Słupsk, Warszawa and Łódź, as well as smaller towns such as Szymankowo, Witaszyce and Sokółka. The list covers all 16 voivodeships.

The new racks, installed several at a time as close to the platforms as possible, will be shaped like an inverted “U”. This shape provides the best protection against bicycle theft. A U-shaped rack allows the entire bicycle to be safely secured at any point on the frame.

“Listen, this is important…”

“Listen, this is important. We want each of you to say at which stations bicycle racks are missing. If you think there should be racks at your station, please leave a comment” – this was the post PLK published on its official fan page in the winter of the previous year. It triggered a flood of reports about places where racks should be installed.

The campaign was joined not only by passengers who commute to railway stations by bicycle every day, but also by local associations and cycling communities. In total, the survey was viewed by more than 44,000 people and shared 136 times.

300 + 400 = 700

In 2014, PLK installed bicycle racks at more than 400 locations across Poland. Installation at a further 300 locations will be carried out in 2015. The cost of the work planned for this year is more than 500,000 złoty. The campaign is not over – PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. is already planning additional locations where bicycles can be safely left before boarding a train.

This year, racks will be installed in two towns in our county: Zgorzelec and Pieńsk. Good idea?
