Traditionally, the celebrations were organized by the Municipal and Town Branch Board of ZOSP RP in Węgliniec, while this year’s host was the Węgliniec Volunteer Fire Department. The ceremony began with a Mass at the parish church, from where the firefighters, invited guests and flag-bearing delegations marched to the square in front of the Węgliniec Cultural Centre.

During the ceremony, the boys from the Youth Fire Brigade at the Węgliniec Volunteer Fire Department took their oath, while outstanding firefighters and MDP members received decorations and fire service badges. The special gifts for their community service to the Municipality and Town of Węgliniec were funded and presented by Mayor Stanisław Mikołajczyk.

Among those attending the ceremony were, among others, firefighter Kazimierz Słabicki, a member of the presidium of the Lower Silesian Provincial Board of ZOSP RP in Wrocław; firefighter Jan Kolbuch, president of the District Board of ZOSP RP in Zgorzelec; Senior Captain Wojciech Cieleń, deputy commander of the district headquarters of the State Fire Service in Zgorzelec; as well as Węgliniec Municipality and Town Mayor Stanisław Mikołajczyk, Municipal Council chair and, at the same time, president of the Municipal and Town Branch Board of ZOSP RP in Węgliniec Waldemar Błauciak, Węgliniec Municipal and Town Office secretary Marcin Papla, and delegations of firefighters from all our volunteer fire departments and German firefighters.

The event concluded with a communal firefighters’ feast, during which several very funny and entertaining skill competitions were held.
