When I was talking to a friend, I was embarrassed by something I heard about our cemetery in Bolesławiec. Recently, when my friend wanted to place a bench by a grave, one of the employees told her that she had to pay for a permit.
As if they did not already charge a considerable fee for a cemetery plot—one of the higher fees in the area—it is apparently necessary to pay PLN 40 a year for a bench by a grave... Over 20 years, that amounts to more than the fee for the grave. Outrageous...
Dariusz Filistyński, manager of the MZGK Municipal Cemetery in Bolesławiec, clarifies:
The cemetery administration wishes to inform you that such fees have never been charged, either in the past or at present. According to the schedule of cemetery fees for the Bolesławiec cemetery dated 12 May 2014, those wishing to install a bench by the grave of a deceased person may do so after obtaining a permit and paying a fee of PLN 36.90. The permit is issued at the request of the client who is the person responsible for the grave or who has been authorized by that person to obtain such a permit.
The conditions for installing a bench by the grave must be agreed with the cemetery administrator and supervised by cemetery employees [...].
The fee is worded as follows:
- fee for issuing a permit to carry out minor construction and renovation work and plantings (laying paving stones, installing a bench, etc.)—is charged only once [podkreślenie – DF].
