On the evening of April 29, 2015, the owners of a car parked in one of the unsecured parking lots in Lubin noticed that its hood was raised. They decided to check it. When they approached the car, it turned out that two men were trying to remove its battery. They attempted to apprehend the would-be thieves. However, after a brief struggle, the perpetrators managed to escape.
The vehicle owners notified the duty officer at the Lubin police station, who dispatched officers from the prevention department to the scene. The officers gathered information and, as a result, identified the men who might be responsible for the break-in. They were detained in one of the apartments in the city and taken to police custody. Both are residents of Lubin. At the time of his arrest, the 69-year-old man had nearly one per mille of alcohol in his system, while his 47-year-old accomplice had nearly two per mille.
Police determined that the perpetrators had broken the car window. After getting inside, they stole a car stereo and a CB radio. They then decided to remove the battery, which they intended to sell at a scrap yard.
The would-be thieves will now answer for their actions before the court. Burglary may carry a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
