“KLIN” was the name given to the intensified operation conducted by road traffic officers on the roads of Zgorzelec County. In addition to police officers from Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany, the operation involved officers of the Border Guard, the Road Transport Inspection and other units, including those from Lubań, Lwówek Śląski, Kamienna Góra and Bolesławiec. The operation aimed to improve the safety of road users by eliminating dangerous behaviours that directly affect the number of road accidents.
On 29 April 2015, Zgorzelec road traffic officers, supported by police officers from other units in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, as well as Czech and German officers, monitored safety conditions on our roads. In addition to police officers, officers of the Border Guard and the Road Transport Inspection also took part in the operation.
During the operation, officers inspected nearly 230 vehicles. The registration certificates of 51 drivers were seized because of the technical condition of the vehicles they were driving. The most common reasons were malfunctions of the braking and steering systems, which directly affected road safety. Passenger cars, buses, minibuses carrying passengers and taxis were all inspected.
During the operation, one intoxicated driver was also detained. Officers also checked whether cyclists and motorcyclists were complying with traffic regulations and inspected whether two-wheeled vehicles had all the required equipment. Similar operations will be repeated regularly because they directly contribute to improving safety for all road users in our county.
A reminder!
In 2014, eight people died on the roads of Zgorzelec County. The main causes of road incidents are, above all, excessive speed, failure to yield the right of way, and, frequently, recklessness and a lack of imagination on the part of drivers.
