Police officers from Karpacz detained a 58-year-old man suspected of killing a cat. On 29 April 2015, at approximately 7:15 p.m., the duty officer was notified by a passer-by that shots had been heard on Mickiewicza Street in Karpacz. In addition, young people sitting on a bench in the park noticed a cat falling from a tree. Witnesses also saw a man who had probably been shooting at the animal with an air rifle.

The police officers who went to the scene noticed a cat under the tree with several gunshot wounds. The animal was secured by a veterinarian for a post-mortem examination. The police established that a 58-year-old resident had shot the cat from a window and killed it. The man confessed, but claimed that he had only wanted to scare the animal away because, while sitting in the tree, the cat had been catching birds. The police are currently clarifying all the circumstances of the case in detail.

The man will now face charges under the Animal Protection Act for killing the cat, for which he could face up to two years in prison.
