The exhibition will present small ceramic forms, three-dimensional sculptures and collages. The display was organized as part of the Polish-German “Via Regia Sculptura” project. The exhibition will be open until 5 June.
The process of creating and shaping a form is extremely fascinating and important to the German artist. According to Frank Brinkmann's, working with a hard material such as stone, or processing clay, is fundamentally different from creating a painting by applying paint to canvas with a brush. These are completely different ways of expressing aesthetic sensitivity. The determinants of his creative expression are time, the strength of the human body and spontaneity. In his opinion, these factors are very important in the work of a ceramist and play a significant role in the creative process. After thermal treatment, clay becomes hard and takes on various, often surprising forms. “In my works,” the artist adds, “this metamorphosis, determined precisely by time, the strength of the human body and spontaneity as an element of surprise, is very important.”
Frank Brinkmann has worked with ceramics since 1983. He honed his craft under the guidance of such artist-ceramists as A. Dannegger, H. Skoruppa, F. Stachat and W. Schmiedel. In 1988, he received his master ceramist diploma. Since 1988, he has been a member of the German Association of Visual Artists – Der Verband Bildender Künstler. From 1992 to 1999, he taught ceramics at the Academy of Visual Arts – Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig. From 1988 to 2005, he worked as a freelancer at the Schaddelmühle Centre for Culture and Art. In 2003–2004, he worked with inmates at the remand prison in Chemnitzer, conducting art classes.
