A 34-year-old resident of Lubin was taken into police custody. The man is suspected of breaking into a pumping station, from which he stole power and control cables. The victim estimated the losses he caused at nearly 2,000 zlotys.

An employee of one of the companies responsible for the operation of the pumping station called the duty officer. He reported that an unknown perpetrator had broken into its premises and stolen electrical cables. The police officer dispatched officers from the prevention department of the Lubin police to the scene. After confirming that a break-in and theft had occurred, the officers began searching for the perpetrator.

While checking the area around the scene of the theft, they noticed a bonfire. They decided to investigate. The man who was near it began to run away when he spotted the police car. He was detained and taken into police custody. It turned out that the detained resident of Lubin had been burning the cables he had removed from the pumping station in the bonfire. He then intended to sell them. The scrap value of the cables is low, while the losses he caused were disproportionate to the profit he would have made by selling them for scrap.

The 34-year-old will now stand trial for burglary and theft. This type of offense is punishable by up to 10 years in prison. At the time of his detention, he had more than 2 per mille of alcohol in his system.
