At its latest session (27 April), the Legnica City Council supported the mayor’s “Legnica Family-Friendly” programme without a single dissenting vote. The resolution introducing a support programme for large families was the culmination of many months of preparations and consultations between the Mayor of Legnica and local communities.

It refers to the nationwide Large Family Card, introducing local, city-based forms of assistance. It applies to families residing in Legnica, consisting of parents (a parent) or guardians (a guardian) who support three or more children under the age of 18. If a child is in education or studying, the limit is until they turn 25. There are no age restrictions for children with a certificate of severe or moderate disability. Each family covered by the programme must have a Large Family Card. It can be obtained from the Department of Health and Social Affairs of the Legnica City Hall. It is estimated that more than 7,000 people in the city will be able to benefit from the Card.

The system of local discounts and preferences for members of large families living in Legnica includes:

  • 50% discounts on the applicable fee for a child’s stay and care in all public nurseries;
  • 50% discounts on the applicable fee for a child’s stay and care in all public preschools;
  • a monthly pass for travel on buses operated by the Municipal Transport Company, costing PLN 30 and valid on all routes every day of the month, as well as a single-ride ticket costing PLN 1;
  • 50% discounts on admission tickets to the swimming area, outdoor pools and ice rink operated by the Sport and Recreation Centre;
  • a 50% discount on the ticket price for the “Bąbelek” swimming pool at General Secondary School Complex No. 3 and the “Delfinek” swimming pool at Primary School No. 7;
  • Legnica Culture Centre will grant a 30% discount on tickets for concerts and other ticketed events, as well as a 20% discount on all paid activities organised by LCK;

  • Muzeum Miedzi will provide free daily access to its exhibitions;
  • Szkolne Schronisko Młodzieżowe will provide a 20% discount on the first three nights, as well as free accommodation for children under the age of 7.

The 50% reduction in the fee for preschool attendance will also remain available for children whose parents have low incomes. The discount will continue to be granted upon the parents’ application. The “Legnica Family-Friendly” programme is open-ended, and other interested entities may also join it by offering discounts and preferences on goods and services included in their offerings. They will become additional programme partners.
