Bolesławiec has advanced to the second stage of the “Best-Lit Municipality and City 2006” competition. Gmina Miejska Bolesławiec entered three sites in the category of lighting a selected space or site: an architectural and urban complex, distinctive sites and places in a municipality or city (historic areas and buildings, modern structures and constructions, monuments, and recreational sites).

On 10 July 2006, the competition committee visited Bolesławiec. It was chaired by Prof. Jerzy Bąk. The purpose of the visit was to inspect the completed projects: the illumination of the Ceramics Museum on Mickiewicza Street, the illumination of the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help at Zamkowy Square, and the illumination of the Church of Our Lady of the Rosary on Ceramiczna Street.

In the first stage, the competition committee uses the submitted documentation to select up to three projects in each category for nomination for awards. In the second stage, the competition committee, consisting of representatives of the organizers and independent experts, visits the nominated municipalities and evaluates the submitted project. The main organizer of the competition is the Association of Employers of Warsaw and Mazovia, while the co-organizers are the biweekly Gazeta Samorządu i Administracji and the SOMA agency, organizer of the Światło i Elektrotechnika trade fair.
