– We have just received information that our educational project has been approved: 20 young residents of the two partner municipalities – Prnjavor and Gradiška – will take part in a language camp in August. Here in our county – says Bolesławiec County Executive Dariusz Kwaśniewski. – We obtained PLN 70,000 for this purpose. I would like to thank the author of the application: Alicja Krzyszczak is a project professional. There will be further successes. For the glory of Poles from Bosnia.
He adds: – This was one of the objectives במסגרת support for Poles in the Balkans. Last year, at the premiere of the performance “My Bosnia,” representatives of Polish diaspora associations stressed that they lacked contact with their homeland, that it was difficult to raise children with a sense of patriotism when they generally lacked the financial means to come to Poland.
– During my visit to Bolesławiec, I promised representatives of Polish diaspora associations that we would organize Polish-language lessons for children from Bosnia if the opportunity arose and we managed to obtain funding for this purpose. I am delighted that we succeeded! – emphasizes Alicja Krzyszczak, head of the Education and Promotion Department of the Bolesławiec County Office.
For years, Poles in Bosnia have cultivated Polish symbols and traditions. Unfortunately, they have no support. The experiences and devastation of the recent war, together with the country’s weak economic condition, condemn them to impoverishment and stagnation. It is difficult to think about Poland when fighting to provide daily bread for one’s own children. The county project, which was approved by the Ministry of National Education, is intended to gradually change this situation. Children will come to Poland who otherwise would never have had the chance to make such a journey to their distant homeland. This is just one of many initiatives carried out as part of cooperation between Bolesławiec County and the municipalities in Bosnia.
– We have a plan of specific tasks to complete: cemetery revitalization, document archiving, scholarship systems and educational cooperation. We have signed five partnerships to give us greater opportunities to act! – emphasizes the Bolesławiec County Executive.
Soon, the popular-science conference “Our Polish Bosnia – From Re-emigration to Integration – History, Present and Future” will be held (16–17 April 2015). Visits by representatives of local governments from the area and the Ambassador of Poland to Bosnia and Herzegovina will certainly consolidate this direction of support and efforts to preserve Polish heritage.
