At 4:00 p.m., the residents of Trzebień met in front of the “Jarzębina” Community House to say farewell to Marzanna, which had been made by young people and children during activities at the Community House.
First, everyone sang together to guitar accompaniment by Mieczysław Goleński. Then a procession set off, and singing all the way, everyone reached the village head Małgorzata Zoryło, who, broom in hand, sentenced winter to several months of exile.
Afterwards, everyone went for a walk by the Bóbr River, where Marzanna was soaked in the water and then burned in a bonfire prepared by the Trzebień Association. There was also an incantation, recited by everyone to make sure that winter had left the village for good. It did not take long for signs of spring to appear, as a pair of swans swam to the shore and closely watched the event’s participants.
After the burning, celebrations began to welcome spring. The representative of spring was the president of the Association, Mateusz Suchcicki, who had bravely carried Marzanna all the way. He received a sweet gift and a voucher for a free haircut from the Village Head.
Members of the “Bojagama” group prepared a repertoire for the occasion and sang spring songs together with the participants of the happening.
Everyone was certain that winter had left Trzebień for good. The singing accompanied by guitars, shouts and incantations certainly discouraged winter from returning. The organizers of the happening were the “Jarzębina” Community House in Trzebień, operating within the Municipal Culture and Sports Centre in Bolesławiec, and the Trzebień Association, to which we extend our heartfelt thanks. The Trzebień Association actively supports events and projects held at “Jarzębina” and elsewhere. Great applause is also due for officially assuming patronage over the creation of the educational trail about pollinating insects, “Bees Ask for Help,” which will be built around the “Jarzębina” Community House in Trzebień. Thanks are also extended to councillors Agnieszka Miszkiewicz and Andrzej Szwedo, who always offer their support. The Trzebień Association thanks the “WędlinDrobex” company, which provided sausages for the bonfire. We warmly invite you to the next events that will be organized.
