As every year, it was springlike, delicious and beautiful—all thanks to 26 Rural Housewives’ Circles from across Bolesławiec County. This time, Easter began its visit to our municipality on 21 March in Trzebień, where the competition was held.

From early morning, successive representatives of the Rural Housewives’ Circles arrived at the “Jarzębina” Community Hall in Trzebień, equipped with festive decorations and tempting-smelling cakes and Easter dishes. They had all come to compete in the Competition for Traditional Easter Dishes.

The event began with a welcome for the many guests, who admired the already-prepared tables. Olga Burdyna—Chairwoman of the County Council of Rural Housewives’ Circles—and Grażyna Łucka—a Councillor of the Bolesławiec Municipal Council—warmly thanked all the circles that had come to Trzebień in such large numbers. The women assured them that their efforts were appreciated and wished them never-ending enthusiasm.

The time came to reward the first winners—those who had taken part in the Competition for Easter Arrangements. In the category for participants up to 16 years old, six equal awards were presented to Jakub Wieczorek from Kraśnik Górny, Joanna Urbańska from Żeliszów, Kacper Mosorka from Brzeźnik, Wojciech Faltyn from Trzebień, Magdalena Sondaj from Brzeźnik and Karolina Kura from Żeliszów. In the category for those over 16, the committee decided to present awards and distinctions. First place went to Justyna Wieczorek from Kraśnik Górny and Marek Fijałkowski from Łaziska. Second place went to Jadwiga Andryjewicz from Dąbrowa Bolesławiecka and Stanisława Witwicka from Kraśnik Dolny, while third place went to Barbara Warmus from Łąka. Additionally, Helena Kołodziej from Łaziska received a distinction. The awards and diplomas were presented by Bogusław Uziej, Chair of the Bolesławiec Municipal Council.

Representatives of Trzebień also presented their awards, honouring the youngest participant in the competition, a four-year-old, as well as the author of the entry submitted in the over-16 category whose arrangement referred to Trzebień.

The time came for the competition committee, comprising Grażyna Wężyk and Zdzisława and Ryszard Miziniak, to begin tasting the competition dishes. Meanwhile, Senator of the Republic of Poland Jan Michalski sponsored awards for the tastiest Easter cakes and mazurkas.

In the meantime, in the lobby of the Community Hall, visitors could not only view all the competition entries but also take part in a fair held to support Filip Mosorka from Kraśnik Górny, who is suffering from leukaemia. There was plenty to choose from: elaborately decorated Easter eggs, traditional Easter palms, yeast lambs and other small decorations attracted considerable interest. In addition, Agnieszka Faltyn conducted an auction of Easter decorations for the boy. It turned out that our guests opened not only their hearts but also their wallets. We would like to thank everyone who joined the campaign—not only those who bought and bid, but also those who spontaneously donated arrangements they had made themselves for the auction.

When the competition committee had finished its work, the time came to announce the most important results. After viewing and tasting the dishes, it turned out that the tastiest ones had been prepared by the women of the Rural Housewives’ Circle in Żeliszów. KGW Ocice took second place, and KGW Bożejowice-Rakowice third. The awards were presented by Bolesławiec Municipal Mayor Andrzej Dutkowski, Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Cezary Przybylski and Deputy Bolesławiec County Head Marian Hanszewski. As Andrzej Dutkowski emphasised, this was already the 14th edition of the competition, which attracts growing interest every year. The mayor also expressed his joy that, thanks to the victory of the Rural Housewives’ Circle from Żeliszów, Bolesławiec municipality would host these Easter contests for another year. The “Wrzosowa Kraina” Local Action Group also funded special gifts. The remaining circles that took part in the competition received commemorative diplomas and small presents.

The time came to announce which Rural Housewives’ Circles had baked the tastiest Easter cakes and mazurkas. They were the circles from Łaziska, Żeliszów, Ocice, Zebrzydowa and Wartowice.

The most beautiful Easter palms, meanwhile, were made in Dąbrowa Bolesławiecka, Zebrzydowa, Wykroty, Łaziska and Mierzwin.

The event was organised by Bolesławiec County, the County Council of Rural Housewives’ Circles and the Municipal Culture and Sports Centre in Bolesławiec, based in Kruszyn.
