Officers from the criminal division of the Lubin police determined the identity of and arrested the perpetrator of several dozen thefts and incidents of damage involving valves and diaphragm regulators. The arrested man caused losses of nearly PLN 10,000 through his activities. He sold the stolen items at scrap-metal collection points and spent the money obtained this way on alcohol.
From October 2014 to January 2015, the 51-year-old resident of Lubin stole more than a dozen valves and diaphragm regulators. He damaged almost as many. Before committing the thefts, he closed the main valve in the basement, thereby depriving the residents of central heating.
The man explained that he stole because he needed money for alcohol. He caused enormous losses, while he himself “earned” only a few hundred zlotys. He now faces up to five years in prison.
