Although accessories are not expressly mandatory, there is no doubt that they make it much easier for drivers to travel on the road when conditions are unfavorable, such as during snowfall. Above all, however, they ensure safe driving at a low cost. So how should you choose accessories, and what features should you look for in them?

There is currently a huge selection of snow chains available on the market. The cheapest set costs around PLN 100, while if we decide to invest in better-quality equipment, we will gain not only exceptional ease of installation but also high traction both on snow and ice. Snow chains are particularly important and useful during snowfall and trips to mountainous regions.

Traditional chains are much more complicated to install, which is why it is recommended to buy a model with included tensioners, saving us effort as well as a great deal of time and energy. This will make it easy both to put the chains on and to remove them from the wheels later. When choosing the chain size, we need to provide the exact tire dimensions so that they can be properly fitted. When purchasing, we should also look for a professionally prepared and legible installation manual, preferably with photographs.

Chains should be installed in specially designated locations. It is worth reading the warning against improper use that manufacturers include with their products. This will ensure that, when driving a vehicle with snow chains, we pay particular attention to what to do if problems arise.

Interestingly, in some countries we may even be stopped by the police solely because we have not fitted snow chains. It is worth emphasizing that chains do not replace winter tires on their own—they must be fitted onto the tires. With chains fitted, we cannot drive faster; the permitted speed is 50 km/h!

Regardless of the budget at our disposal, before purchasing any car accessories, let us remember to check beforehand that they will be suitable and work perfectly with our car.
