The incident took place on Saturday, February 28, after 4:00 p.m. An off-duty police officer from the criminal division was walking near one of the supermarkets in Lubin. At one point, he noticed a man fleeing, followed by a security guard. When he asked what had happened, the store employee told him that the fleeing man had just robbed the store. The officer joined the chase.

When the suspect ran into a park, he asked the security guard to close the gate and inform the duty officer at the Lubin police station. The would-be thief did not want to surrender easily. After being detained by the police officer, he struggled with him and threatened to kill him if he did not let him go. Ultimately, the suspect was taken to police custody. After his arrest, he told officers that he had committed the theft at his girlfriend’s request.

Police established that the 30-year-old resident of Lubań County had entered the supermarket. There, he put a jacket, tights, mobile phone top-up cards and other items into a basket. He then went to the checkout. After the cashier scanned all the goods and packed them into bags, he snatched the bag from her hands and began to run away.

The thirty-year-old will now stand trial for robbery by force. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
