The competition was organized by the Association of Former Soldiers of the 62nd Special Company “Commando,” the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment, and the Bolesławiec branch of the Association of Polish Artillerymen. More than 150 students took part in the exercises, representing schools educating young people in uniformed-service classes from Legnica, Lubomierz, Rakowice, Dobrodzień and Piechowice.
The competition took the form of a team cross-country march, requiring participants to cover a 6-kilometer route through forested terrain and complete a series of fitness tasks along the way in the shortest possible time. All participants had to face extremely difficult events requiring numerous skills, as well as appropriate preparation and physical fitness.
At the beginning, the competitors had to carry three 25-kilogram ammunition boxes over a distance of 30 meters. At the next fitness station, military instructors tested their knowledge of first aid, after which the teams had to transport two injured people on stretchers to an evacuation point several dozen meters away.
However, the military events generated the greatest enthusiasm among the competitors. At successive stations, they had to fire an air rifle for accuracy and throw a practice grenade. The final event required physical strength: pushing a passenger off-road vehicle over a distance of 30 meters. The participants’ commitment and fighting spirit made the competition extremely intense throughout.
As a result of the events, first place was won by the boys’ team from the Economic and Technical Schools Complex in Rakowice; second place went to students from the A. Kamiński General and Vocational Schools Complex in Lubomierz; and third place was awarded to the girls’ team from the Economic and Technical Schools Complex in Rakowice.
It is worth emphasizing that the girls’ team from Rakowice also received a special prize for achieving the best results in air-rifle shooting.
After the chief judge, Captain Jakub Wołyński read out the minutes and the competition was summarized, the commander of the 23rd Artillery Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Tomasz Lisiecki, together with the vice-president of the “Commando” Association, Reserve Staff Warrant Officer Bogdan Fiałkowski, and the president of the Bolesławiec branch of the Association of Polish Artillerymen, Reserve Colonel Henryk Harkot, presented the winning teams with cups and material prizes.
