The theft took place in one of the towns near Głogów. The man, allegedly interested in buying the car, arranged to meet its owner and said he wanted to look at the vehicle. During the meeting, taking advantage of the owner’s distraction, the 32-year-old man from Lubin got into the Volkswagen Vento, started the engine and drove away.

Police officers from Głogów established the perpetrator’s identity. He drove the stolen car around Lubin, hoping he would not be recognized. One night, officers who had received information about the theft of such a car decided to stop the 32-year-old for a traffic check. The thief began to flee. During the pursuit, he hit a lowered barrier at a railway crossing, got out of the Volkswagen and began running away on foot. He was arrested several dozen metres away.

The man from Lubin now faces up to five years in prison.
