The fairy tale by Izumi Yoshida, containing elements of traditional Japanese theatre and directed by Waldemar Wolański, was produced using the interesting and visually appealing bunraku technique—the traditional Japanese puppet theatre dating back to the 17th century.
The fast-paced action, which captured the audience’s attention, took place in the Land of the Rising Sun. It told the story of two elderly people and showed the consequences of their choices between good and evil. In the story, the protagonists encountered other characters along the way: the Prince of Sparrows, the Demon-Woman and the Demon-Guardian of the Swamps, as well as a petrified dragon and birds. During the performance, there were moments of sadness and joy, fear and laughter.
The performance captivated the children not only with its subject matter. The whole production was brought to life by songs composed by Tomasz Walczak. The song “All’s Well That Ends Well …” concluded this exceptionally interesting performance, and the young audience enthusiastically clapped along to its rhythm. Ultimately, they rewarded the actors with thunderous applause.
