The incident took place on January 29 at one of the discount grocery stores in Kowary. Around 11:00 a.m., a 22-year-old resident of Będzin put two one-liter bottles of expensive vodka in his shopping basket. He then went to a place in the store where he could not be seen by the surveillance cameras. He took the bottles out of the basket and hid them under his clothes.
A security employee noticed this. When the perpetrator left the store with the vodka, the security guard followed him and demanded that he return the stolen property. The thief then began beating him all over his body.
The police were notified. Store employees asked passers-by for help, and two young men helped detain the perpetrator until the officers arrived.
At the time of his detention, the 22-year-old was drunk; he had more than one per mille of alcohol in his system. The man was taken to police custody. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
