Last year, Martyna Stasiak, a student of II LO, took third place for her description of Gliniada as a European event. This year, she improved her result and took second place in the “Cultural Correspondent” competition organized by the Center for Culture and Art in Wrocław. The aim of the competition was to promote regional cultural events. Thirty entries were submitted.
“In my competition entry, I described my personal feelings and how I perceive my sense of identity,” says Martyna. “Thanks to such cultural events, I build my own identity and tolerance.”
Elwira Madejska, the student’s Polish teacher and academic mentor, emphasizes that Martyna watched the performance “My Bosnia” with solid subject-matter preparation. Earlier, she had attended lectures on the culture of re-emigrants from Bosnia and also listened to Robert Mertuszka’s lecture on the culture of people from the Eastern Borderlands who came to our region after the war. As a result, all the historical shifts in Głomb’s play were understandable to Martyna, and the high-school student was able to review the performance thoroughly.
“Bolesławiec helped us win,” says the Polish teacher. “There are many outstanding cultural events in our city. I left Jacek Głomb’s performance delighted and suggested that Martyna see it as well. ‘My Bosnia’ inspired her. I would especially like to thank the woman working in the MDK secretariat for her kindness and help in obtaining tickets. The performance was breaking popularity records, and it was difficult to get a ticket,” the teacher adds.
