This year, the Orchestra played for the 23rd time. The money raised will be used to maintain high standards of care for children in pediatric and oncology wards and to provide dignified medical care for seniors.
Several hundred volunteers from Secondary School Complex No. 3 collected donations in our city. They looked great in their uniforms, carrying collection tins. Among the first-year volunteers were Oliwia Sobola and Paulina Borowska. “This is the first time we have collected donations,” the volunteers said. “It is a wonderful feeling because we are helping others. People are kind; they come up to us themselves and put money into the tins.”
On Sunday, it was difficult to meet anyone without a red heart sticker attached to their jacket or hat. “This day is one of a kind,” Legnica resident Joanna Raczyńska confided. “We come together and show that we have good hearts. We want to help.”
The people of Legnica helped as best they could—and they were generous. For example, a toy teddy bear donated by the Dopalacze motorcycle club was auctioned for PLN 1,800! The people of Legnica also ate eighteen trays of cake and an entire mountain of meat pastries prepared by seniors. The proceeds, of course, went to the Orchestra.
A lot was happening. Legnica’s winter swimmers bathed in a pool prepared in the city center by firefighters, and there was a race with a heart. “It is cold and windy, but that does not bother us,” said Legnica residents Agnieszka Konaszków and Jolanta Gogół. “We are running for the Orchestra and for our health. That is how it should be!”
There were performances and concerts at Galeria Piastów. Among others, Photony performed. And when Donatan and Cleo appeared on stage, the gallery was literally bursting at the seams, with so many people from Legnica coming to see their concert. The event ended with fireworks—the traditional “Light to the Sky.”
