On January 10, at around 5:00 a.m., police officers patrolling the streets of Środa Śląska noticed a Fiat driving without its lights on. The driver was stopped for a traffic check. As it turned out, he did not have a driving licence. What is more, in the trunk of his car, officers found crowbars, metal-cutting shears, a lock pick, pruning shears, a punch, a rope winch, as well as a scope and balaclavas.
The man was unable to sensibly explain either what he was doing in the town or why he needed the tools. The suspect changed his details several times, preventing the officers from establishing his identity. He was therefore taken into police custody.
The officers established that he was a 48-year-old resident of Opole Voivodeship, repeatedly convicted of crimes against property. What is more, it emerged that the man might be linked to thefts and burglaries that took place in Lubin.
The 48-year-old admitted that he had come to Środa Śląska to commit a crime. He did not get the chance.
The man was handed over to officers from KPP Lubin. They proved that he had committed three burglaries. In December of last year, the man broke into one of the premises, from which he stole gaming machines. In January this year, however, he broke into two premises in Lubin, stealing only money from the machines. The total losses caused by the criminal activity of the man from Opole Voivodeship amounted to more than PLN 13,000.
The detainee faces up to 10 years in prison.
