Both detentions took place on 6 January this year. Officers of the Nadodrzański Border Guard Unit from Zgorzelec and Ludwigsdorf checked a Russian man travelling from Germany to Poland on the A4 motorway. The man presented the officers with a Russian driving licence. It turned out to bear signs of forgery.
On the same day, a Polish-German patrol from the post in Świecko checked the identity of a Polish man, the driver of a passenger car. He had... a Ukrainian driving licence. Also forged.
The Russian and Polish men were detained. They may now face up to 5 years in prison.
