In mid-December this year, police officers from Kruszyn noticed a car without registration plates on one of the forest roads. What is more, someone had removed the vehicle’s identification plates. With the assistance of an expert, they nevertheless established the vehicle’s VIN number.
About two weeks later, a 17-year-old driver was stopped for a roadside check in Chojnów (Legnica County). It turned out that he was driving a vehicle bearing identification numbers that the officers had read from... the car abandoned in the forest.
The teenager told police that he had bought the car abroad, without the right to register it. The officers issued him with a summons to appear at the police unit.
The 17-year-old appeared in response to the summons. He then explained that he had bought the car from our western neighbours for 50 euros, without the right to register it. However, he did not have the documents. He claimed that a friend from Bolesławiec, who kept them at home, could deliver them.
The 25-year-old friend brought the documents and parked the aforementioned car several hundred metres from the police station.
The whole story soon became clear: the 17-year-old had broken into the car in Bolesławiec County and stolen it. He then placed on the stolen vehicle the numbers from the car he had bought in Germany—the same make and the same model. The teenager told the officers that he had abandoned the car from Germany and had driven the stolen one after modifying it.
What is more, in the stolen car in which the 25-year-old accomplice of the burglar had arrived at the police station, officers found two mobile phones originating from thefts. The 25-year-old admitted to handling stolen goods.
Moreover, there were two female passengers in the car. One of them was found carrying... several dozen doses of methamphetamine and ecstasy.
The 19-year-old faces up to 3 years in prison, while the 25-year-old faces up to 5 years. The 17-year-old could face as much as 10 years behind bars.
