The Sztuka dla Ludzi Foundation is not resting on its laurels, and its co-founder Dagmara Angier-Sroka has recently been spending most of her time above ground. This is not about daydreaming, but about painstaking work on a lift and scaffolding. The large-format painting at II Armii Wojska Polskiego Street, which she created together with her husband Bartłomiej Sroka, is part of the “Medieval Legnica” project and is one of two such undertakings.
The second mural was painted more than a month ago by Otecki – a well-known Wrocław street-art artist. His work depicts Witelo, the most distinguished thinker and theoretician of historic Legnica, who laid, among other things, the foundations of the psychology of perception. Vitello Thuringopolonis, also known as Erazm Ciołek, who towers in a monk’s hood over the school sports field at Kamienna Street, holds in his hand a prism splitting light.
The mural by Dagmara Angier-Sroka and Bartłomiej Sroka shows a medieval knight holding a shield bearing the Piast coat of arms. Below it is a fragment of a Psalm written in Latin: “Exaltationes Dei in gutture eorum, et gladii ancipites in manibus eorum” (Let the praise of God be in their mouths, and double-edged swords in their hands; Psalm 149:6). As the initiators explain, these words are a living message for each of us, so that we may become modern-day knights. In the Middle Ages, spiritual support was important to those who fought, and that has not changed to this day.
The “Medieval Legnica” project was carried out by the Sztuka dla Ludzi Foundation and co-financed by the Polska Miedź Foundation and the Legnica City Office.
