The District Prosecutor in Zgorzelec has filed an indictment with the Regional Court in Jelenia Góra against four residents of Bogatynia: 24-year-old Remigiusz R., 43-year-old Tomasz J., Artur A., and 45-year-old Czech national Frantisek M. They are accused, among other things, of producing methamphetamine, growing non-fibre hemp, and illegally possessing firearms.
On 15 May 2014, officers of the Central Bureau of Investigation of the Police identified a property belonging to Tomasz J., located near Bogatynia, as a place where non-fibre hemp might be cultivated. When they entered the building in the evening, they discovered not only a marijuana cultivation operation, but also a range of items, vessels and chemical compounds used to produce a psychotropic substance. They also found 241.43 grams net of the manufactured substance. An expert opinion in physicochemical analysis established that it was methamphetamine, from which 2,344 doses could have been obtained.
At the scene, CBŚ officers detained Czech national Frantisek M. and Artur A. The Czech national had taken up temporary residence in the building after being hired by Remigiusz R. and Tomasz J. as a chemist to produce drugs. They also supplied him with all the items and substances necessary for this purpose, in the form of pharmaceutical products. Artur A., meanwhile, brought food to him on Remigiusz R.’s instructions.
In addition, in the same building, in rooms on the first floor, officers discovered a professionally organized operation producing non-fibre hemp. During a search of Artur A., they found 107.52 grams of marijuana on him. In the room occupied by Frantisek M., police officers also found a firearm: a Czech-made Alfa revolver, 6 mm calibre. The man stated that it belonged to him. A Browning pistol, 8 mm calibre, was also found in Tomasz J.’s possession.
Initially, the suspects did not admit to the charges against them. Later, however, they changed their statements and all admitted to the acts of which they were accused. These crimes and offences carry a sentence of between 3 and 15 years’ imprisonment. Remigiusz R. and Tomasz J. had previously been convicted. Artur A. and Frantisek M., however, will appear before the court for the first time.
