For nearly four and a half years, the notary failed to pay court fees collected from clients for applications to register entries in the land and mortgage register. In this way, he misappropriated approximately PLN 900,000. The State Treasury suffered the loss. The irregularities were revealed during a routine inspection carried out by the Wrocław Court of Appeal.
48-year-old Grzegorz M., who confessed to the crime, was detained for two months because he holds dual citizenship and there was concern that he might leave the country. For misappropriating such a large amount of money, he faces between one and 10 years in prison.
The prosecution's priority now is to recover the assets taken by the notary. However, preliminary findings indicate that Grzegorz M. has no assets of his own.
