At 11:00 a.m., a seminar will begin at the Ceramics Department at 13 Mickiewicza Street, devoted to various issues related to the conservation of artistic craft objects made of glass, ceramics and metal. The speakers will include specialists from Poland and the Czech Republic.

Marta Bernaciak from the Study and Storage Centre for Archaeological Monuments in Głogów will present methods of examining archaeological monuments and discuss what information can be obtained by analysing the data acquired in this way. Izabela Epa, a representative of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Office for the Protection of Monuments in Wrocław, Jelenia Góra branch, will present recent investments in the conservation of architectural monuments from the city and Bolesławiec County.

An employee of the University of Pardubice, Dana Modráčková, will present issues related to the storage of museum collections; part of the presentation will be devoted to the conservation of paintings on glass. The seminar will also be attended by specialists involved in the conservation of various types of materials, craft objects and works of art: Jana Skálová and Radka Řezničková (Krkonoše Museum in Vrchlabí), Barbara Glinkowska (Museum of Ceramics in Bolesławiec) and Veronika Sochůrek (University of Pardubice).

At 1:00 p.m., the opening of the exhibition “From the Museum’s Conservation Work” will take place. During the exhibition opening, the results will be announced and awards presented to the winners of the Boleslawiec Mayor’s Competition for the Best Master’s or Doctoral Thesis on the history and contemporary life of Bolesławiec.

The exhibition will feature objects conserved by employees of the Museum of Ceramics in Bolesławiec over the past year. Visitors will be able to follow the various stages of work on metal and ceramic objects, as well as see items after comprehensive conservation. The exhibits will include archaeological monuments (ceramic vessels and tiles, horseshoes and axes) and militaria (edged weapons, a cuirassier breastplate and cannonballs).

The conservation of these objects took place in the specialist workshop of the Museum of Ceramics, which was commissioned at the beginning of this year. It was equipped with modern apparatus, including microscopes, a fume cupboard, a cautery unit, a sandblaster, a laboratory scale, a table with an illuminated worktop, a table with an acid-resistant worktop and a spot-lighting lamp, among other equipment.
