Children and young people from primary schools, middle schools and secondary schools across Bolesławiec County took part in the fire-safety knowledge tournament. "The tournament begins with local qualifying rounds in schools, followed by qualifiers in municipalities, districts and provinces, and finally at the national level," says Piotr Florków, Municipal Commander of the Fire Service in Warta Bolesławiecka and co-organizer of the tournament. "This year KRUS (the Agricultural Social Insurance Fund – editor's note) joined the tournament. As a result, the competition's format was expanded to include additional questions concerning people's safety while working on farms," adds Piotr Florków.
During Thursday's qualifying round, the participants took a test and then answered questions orally. After all the points had been counted, the jury, consisting of Piotr Florków, Jan Rus and Jerzy Kieler, selected the winners. In the primary-school category, first place went to Mateusz Kopeć from Trzebień. Magda Pitek from Ławszowa came second, while Paulina Maciaszek from Świętoszów took third place. Among middle-school students, Cezary Nalazek from Osiecznica won. The next two places went to Jolanta Pitek, also from Osiecznica, and Paweł Olchowa from Gimnazjum nr 1 in Bolesławiec. In the secondary-school category, Dariusz Zawada from Zespół Szkół Budowlanych won. Sławomir Puk from I Liceum Ogólnokształcącego came second. Krzysztof Boryczewski from II LO took third place.
The tournament winners received attractive prizes. These included a mountain bike, a mini stereo system, branded travel bags, backpacks and book gifts. The competitors who took first place in their respective categories will represent Bolesławiec County in the provincial qualifying round of the fire-safety knowledge tournament.
The organizers thank the companies, institutions and people who helped organize the tournament. The sponsors of the prizes were: the Chairperson of the District Council, the Mayor of Bolesławiec, the Head of Bolesławiec Municipality, the Mayor of Nowogrodziec, Zbigniew Bożencki, Waldermar Tadajewski, the Bolesławiec, Lwówek Śląski, Chocianów, Świętoszów and Węgliniec Forest Districts, Urzędowski, the Shimano store, Salon Mody i Sportu, Accent, Ogniomistrz and the Agricultural Social Insurance Fund in Bolesławiec. The organizers thank Adam Maksymczyk, director of Zespół Szkół Mechanicznych, for agreeing to make the sports hall available, and teacher Piotr Russ for help in organizing the tournament.
