Independence Day was celebrated at Primary School No. 2. This year’s observances took the form of a festival and began with a review of patriotic songs.
New generations often forget, and may not even know, that it is thanks to a free Poland that we can cultivate our customs and traditions, as well as introduce new holidays. We are part of our culture, we create it and participate in it; let us not forget that it defines us. Therefore, individual classes prepared interesting presentations related to culture and patriotism. Three received the greatest recognition among the students:
- “Polish Traditions and Customs,” prepared by class 5a under the supervision of Barbara Pankiewicz and Wioletta Walęga. The students prepared a special calendar. Each month featured a different holiday and a description of the traditions associated with it. There were New Year’s Day, New Year’s Eve, Young Valentine’s Day, Fat Thursday, Easter, the Harvest Festival and St. Barbara’s Day. The students prepared exhibits related to the holidays, including an Easter table, harvest bread, a miner’s lamp and a Santa Claus costume.
- “The History of the Nation in Dates.” Agnieszka Korczak and class 6b prepared a contest in which participants had to correctly match dates to historical eras, based on Tomasz Bagiński’s film “The History of Poland”..
- “Pantheon of National Greats.” Class Ludmiła Rutka presented a short film about Polish Nobel Prize winners, as well as a beautiful exhibition devoted to great Poles. They included John Paul II, Kazimierz Deyna, Hubal and Eugeniusz Bodo. The exhibition introduced many well-known figures from the worlds of science, sport and film.
Other presentations prepared that day:
- “Places Close to Poles’ Hearts,” class 4a (supervisor: Magdalena Rydz)
- “Proverbs as the Wisdom of the Nation,” class 4b (supervisor: Anna Kozłowska)
- “The Treasure of National Nature,” class 5b (supervisor: Agnieszka Śliwa)
- “The Score of the National Anthem – Images on the Staff,” class 6a (supervisor: Kazimierz Prokowski)
After viewing the presentations, the students arranged the Polish flag from red-and-white balloons on the school sports field, and a moment later it spectacularly soared into the sky. To conclude, the students and their supervisors went for sweet refreshments. The project was initiated and coordinated by Ludmiła Rutka. The school decorations were prepared by students under the direction of Jolanta Wójcik.
