This was the eighth and final debate this year in the consultation series “Closer to Legnica’s residents and their concerns”. The president was accompanied by his deputies, a group of councillors, directors of departments of the City Office, ZGM, ZDM, and representatives of the police and Municipal Police.

During last year’s meeting in this part of the city, residents submitted their demands and proposals. The president discussed the progress made in implementing them. At the time, residents pointed, among other things, to the need for the police and Municipal Police to take decisive action to ensure safety: combating people drinking and causing disturbances in public places, as well as maintaining order. The services took decisive steps, resulting in several dozen fines being issued to people breaking the law. The president recalled that the city had funded additional police patrols, which also operated in this part of the city.

During the consultation meetings, the president discusses budget implementation. This year, investment funding increased to nearly PLN 60 million, more than half of which was allocated to road projects (20 tasks). The reconstruction of Jaworzyńska Street is currently under way. Work is continuing at its intersection with Grabskiego Street. Work has meanwhile been completed on the section from Szkolna Street to the intersection of Jaworzyńska, Muzealna and Skarbka streets. Reconstruction of the roadways on Witelona and Skarbka streets has been completed. The project was expanded to include new paved sidewalks. They are already nearly finished.

A car park, together with new roads, has been built around Klubowa Street. The first stage of the reconstruction of Orła Białego Avenue in City Park has been completed. The next stage will begin shortly. A mini-zoo with ornamental birds was recently opened on the palm-house grounds, to the delight not only of the youngest residents, amid beautiful themed gardens.

Road investments on Moniuszki, Galaktyczna and Plutona streets are well advanced. An integrated traffic and public transport management system is being built. Other important projects include the next stage of the renovation of the Knight’s Academy and the modernisation of the building of the Electrical and Mechanical Schools Complex. The city has already spent more than PLN 40 million of its own funds on restoring the Knight’s Academy to its former splendour. State assistance was limited. Work is currently being carried out in the beautiful Royal Hall. Its restoration will cost nearly PLN 5 million. The ZSE-M building, located in the city centre, will once again be an architectural gem after renovation.

In the next part of the meeting, Tadeusz Krzakowski spoke about the Legnica Civic Budget. In last year’s LCB edition, residents of these two areas of the city selected three projects: construction of a playground on Środkowa Street, reconstruction of the sidewalk on Senatorska Street, and reconstruction of Żeromskiego Street. All have already been completed. This year’s vote on proposed LCB projects was attended by 24 percent more residents than the previous year. This demonstrates Legnica residents’ growing involvement in city affairs and their desire to decide about the quality of their immediate surroundings.

As always, meeting participants put forward their demands. For example, they called for pedestrian crossings on Oświęcimska Street to be clearly marked, requested police and Municipal Police intervention on Piastowska Street, where public order is being disturbed, and also raised comments concerning the collection of municipal waste.

The president announced plans to organise an event enabling residents to tour the Regional Municipal Waste Processing Installation on Rzeszotarska Street. It is one of the most modern and best-equipped facilities in the region, where waste is sorted, processed and stored. Free MPK buses will transport everyone interested there. He also thanked Legnica residents for their creative and active participation in the social dialogue represented by the consultation meetings held for many years.
