Seminar sessions will be conducted by specialists from Muzeum Karkonoskie in Jelenia Góra and representatives of the Jelenia Góra branch of the Provincial Monuments Conservator in Jelenia Góra.

During the lectures, issues related to the conservation of tin, stone and ceramic products will be discussed, and methods for conserving such objects will be presented. Seminar participants will have a unique opportunity for direct contact with museum objects that are normally displayed exclusively in showcases or kept in storage.

On the same day at 17:00, the opening of the exhibition “Former Crafts Through the Lens of Karel Hnik” will take place in the City History Department at 14 Kutuzowa Street. In eighty photographs taken in the 1980s, this Czech artist and photographer presented people engaged in former occupations now forgotten: cooperage, blacksmithing, wheelwrighting, weaving, shingle-making, basket weaving, and the production and stringing of glass beads. These are not merely photographs of craftspeople at work. Hnik showed their homes and the space in which they lived and worked, demonstrating that former crafts were a passion and a distinctive way of life for the people portrayed in the photographs.

The exhibition is supplemented by products of former crafts from the collection of Muzeum Karkonoskie in Vrchlabí: wooden horned sledges, various types of barrels and churns, and objects associated with weaving. A bead-stringing device used by bead makers operating on the Czech side of the Krkonoše, near places such as Poniklé and Jablonec, is particularly interesting. The activities are being carried out as part of the Polish-Czech project “Via Fabrillis – Craft Traditions Trail, Part 2”.
