The host introduced the guests to Legnica as the first economic, educational, academic and cultural centre in Lower Silesia after Wrocław. He discussed various areas of the city’s economy, pointing to important investments and its development path. He devoted considerable attention to the operation of Legnica’s education system, referring, among other things, to the standardisation of educational facilities, the computerisation of educational institutions, swimming lessons for children and the unique project teaching children to play chess. They also discussed the work of Legnica’s local government.
“I greatly value meeting and working with young people,” said the mayor Tadeusz Krzakowski. “I learn a new perspective from you. I try to manage the city so that it is as friendly as possible to residents and visitors.”
The German young people have been staying in Poland since September 12. They are being hosted by families in Legnica. Their programme includes participating in school classes, games and sports competitions, sightseeing in Legnica and Karpacz, as well as a project entitled “Music Without Borders”. The students are preparing and singing Polish and German scout songs.
Legnica students visited their friends in Moelln in the spring this year. They stayed with German families, attended classes at a German school, met with the town’s mayor and formed friendships with their peers. During the visit, they carried out a project entitled “What Are We Baking? – Was backen wir?” It involved developing recipes and baking cakes together.
