The Board of the Siberians’ Association Branch, the Mayor of Bolesławiec, the Society of Lovers of Lviv and the Southeastern Borderlands, and Municipal Gymnasium No. 2 invited the residents of Bolesławiec to the March of Living Memory of Siberian Deportees. The march began in Bolesławiec’s Market Square, where the school colour guards and all participants were welcomed. The event commemorates Poles who, over the centuries, were deported to Siberia, where they suffered and died of hunger, cold and forced labour.

Before this year’s march, the sponsors ceremonially drove foundation nails into the banner of the Society of Lovers of Lviv and the Southeastern Borderlands. “We have been waiting for this banner for 25 years,” said Michał Wojdyła, chairman of the Society. “Thank you for helping to fund it. It will serve us well. Many of us have already passed away, but today I see young people who, I hope, will continue to remember us.

From Bolesławiec’s Market Square, the marchers proceeded to the municipal cemetery, to the monument to the Siberian Deportees. The march included the banners of the Siberians’ Association, the Society of Lovers of Lviv and the Southeastern Borderlands, the Historical Society of the 6th Kaniow Lancers Regiment, Municipal Gymnasium No. 2, Municipal School Complex No. 2, Municipal School Complex No. 3, Primary School No. 4, Primary School No. 5 and the Primary School in Ocice.
