A resident of Bolesławiec, Bohdan Pieliński, founder and editor-in-chief of Telewizja Lokalna Bolesławiec, local government official and collector of vintage devices such as radios, gramophones and telephones, has died at the age of 67.

“He was truly an extraordinary person, and at the same time an extremely modest and warm-hearted man,” recalls Danuta Maślicka, an activist with NSZZ “Solidarity” during the Polish People’s Republic, a longtime teacher and director of the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre, and author of, among other works, the book “Znikopis. Pamiętasz, była solidarność,” who met Bohdan Pieliński in the 1980s. “A person who was always eager to do something. A man of great passion. When something interested him, he devoted himself to it without limits. A romantic computer scientist who loved flowers and could speak about them beautifully.

Danuta Maślicka recently managed to interview Mr. Bohdan; the interview can be read in last year’s “Bolesławiec Yearbook.” Bohdan Pieliński’s friend was Józef Król.

“I remember Bohdan’s involvement in local community affairs very well,” says the former mayor of Bolesławiec. “He and Andrzej Czarciński founded the local television station, which was so needed and is still valued by residents today. Bohdan was exceptionally kind, warm-hearted and honest; he always adhered to his principles. It is a pity that Bogdan has passed away. I have many warm and fond memories of him. When we were returning together from a meeting at which the decision was made that I would be a candidate for mayor, Bohdan said to me, ‘Do you realize that from tomorrow you will be responsible for everything around us?’ And the city looked different then than it does today; it was at the beginning of its transformation,” Król adds.

The funeral will take place on Thursday, September 18, at the municipal cemetery in Bolesławiec. It will begin at 12:00.
